Australian Surfboat by Geoff Hargraves, original
Surf boats today are used soley for Surfboat competitions between surf clubs. It takes great skill to row and surf these boats. Crews are 4 oars persons and 1 sweep. The sweep is the person holding the long oar at the stern to steer the boat. Teams are men, women, or mixed.
Surf life saving clubs can have more than 1 Surfboat and races between clubs are often the highlight when they race.
It is spectacular when the surf is large.
This painting shows 1 boat rowing out through a breaking wave with wastewater being thrown into the air.
